dm+d Changes - Food Substances

Cegedim Healthcare Solutions has been notified of forthcoming changes relating to food substances planned to be made to the NHS Dictionary of Medicines and Device (dm+d) maintained by the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA).

Over the course of the next few months, in the region of 400 to 450 food substance Actual Medicinal Products (AMPs) will be invalidated and moved to different Virtual Medicinal Products (VMPs).

The NHSBSA is supporting an initiative by Advisory Committee on Borderline Substances (ACBS) dietician experts to improve the clinical categorisation / classification of food substances.

Where new SNOMED codes are used this can add challenges to electronic prescribing until prescribing and dispensing systems are aligned. With this in mind, the NHSBSA has advised that they will try to communicate changes to system suppliers as best they can. As a dm+d user, Cegedim Healthcare Solutions will monitor regular communications received from the NHSBSA relating to this and maintain Gemscript drug dictionary data up-to-date in line with the latest available version of the dm+d.
