Patient Registration in Scotland Hints and Tips

To help you address some of the issues you may be experiencing with patient registration, we have prepared the following hints and tips:

  • It is important to Complete Registrations - In the unlikely event that you have to register a patient with incomplete details, please be aware that as an Acceptance Transaction is not generated. Although the patient is on the practice's patient register and clinical data can be added, they are not known at the Health Board end, so no capitation fee is paid.
See Incomplete Details and Incomplete RegLinks in the Registration Help Centre for details.
  • When a Patient Leaves - To ensure a GP2GP transfer of records takes place, when you receive a deduction request in Registration Links, you must process the deduction in Docman.
See GP2GP - Deducting a Patient Scotland only in the Consultation Manager Help Centre for details
  • Merging Patients - If you accidentally create two patient registration records for one patient, you need to merge them. The merge facility allows you to move clinical data from a duplicate record (which is usually inactive) to an existing active record.
Important - Once the merge patient process is complete, it cannot be reversed. Please use with extreme caution when selecting patients to merge.
See Merging Patients in the Registration Help Centre for details and a useful video of the process.
