Clinical Safety Issue: SCI Pathology Abnormal Results Not Highlighted in Red Text in Vision 3 Consultation Manager Mailbox View on NSS Hosted Systems

Cegedim Healthcare Solutions have been made aware of an issue following migration of Scottish GP practices using Vision 3 from LAN to Cloud hosting such that abnormal SCI pathology test results are not highlighted in Red text as they should be when displayed in the Vision 3 Consultation Manager mailbox. The following example shows how an abnormal SCI pathology test result is displayed in the Vision 3 Consultation Manager mailbox view after a GP practice has moved to the Cloud. The result line in question is prefixed with HI to indicate an abnormally high test result value (44GB. “Serum Alt level” = Serum alanine aminotransferase level 78 U/L 5 - 55):

The following shows how the same line with the abnormally high test result value should be displayed (i.e. highlighted in Red text). Note that this screenshot additionally includes a line containing an abnormally low test result value which is also highlighted in Red text and prefixed with LO to denote that it is abnormally low (44M4. Serum albumin 34 g/L 35 - 50):

This presents a clinical safety risk where a viewer of result data displayed in the Vision 3 Consultation Manager mailbox was to rely solely on the visual cue of any abnormal SCI pathology test results being displayed in Red text to distinguish them as such, this being that a viewer may miss the fact that a particular test result is considered abnormal. This may have implications for patient care, including potentially delayed treatment.

Note that abnormal SCI pathology test results continue to display in Red text, as expected, in all other areas of Vision where they may be viewed following a GP practice moving to the Cloud - including Mail Manager that is used by most Vision users to view pathology test results, and within the main Consultation Manager screen. It is only the Vision Consultation Manager mailbox view that is affected by this issue.

We hope to have this issue resolved as soon as possible. In the meantime, we would ask that Vision 3 users do not use the Vision 3 Consultation Manager mailbox to view SCI pathology test results and instead only view pathology test results in Vision 3 Mail Manager or the main Consultation Manager screen. The Consultation Manager mailbox screen can still be used to check actions against results, though it may be more convenient for clinicians to turn on the tooltip setting which will display these when hovering over a result in the main Journal.
